Dundee University Botanical Gardens: Set to close
Dundee Botanical Gardens
University of Dundee, Riverside Dr, Dundee DD2 1QH
I like many others was really sad to see the news today, that Dundee University is set to close the Botanical Gardens in Dundee. Which, in 2022 celebrated its 50th year. It holds so much importance to so many people for lots of different reasons. I’m sad that I’ve only recently visited for the first time this year.
We live locally, and the Botanics had been somewhere were we had planned to stop by, as we drove past on the way to visit relatives at Ninewells Hospital – without fail, I’d always comment to my husband., we really must call in.. and we finally did that in April for my birthday! Oh, and from the moment we walked in, greeted by such a warm welcome, we instantly regretted not going sooner.
The Botanical Gardens – a brief history

Established in 1970’s – as an ecological garden for the University. a vast site, with acres of sprawling grounds. Facing south, with views towards the River Tay, There are two greenhouses – it feels like its slightly underselling them using that term, as they are really very specular – housing HUGE cacti, a pond, and a wondrous collection of plants you’d see in rainforests and the like!
You can see some more info here, on the ‘Dundee Culture‘ Facebook Page – where there are lots of comments and discussion about Dundee Uni’s decision and any possible solution to try and save this wonderful place. I honestly think it would be such a loss for us all. I hope it can be saved.
Update – my friend just shared this link to a (change .org) petition – please sign!

For those who want to know more about film, and where to get it scanned – I send all my film off to a wonderful local business based in Glasgow
